Community, Caring, & Belonging
BJ leads a number of trips for community members, all over the world and all year round. Journeys to Israel are part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining our relationships with the land and the Israeli people. Retreats and trips are also an important part of Family Life & Learning.
In the fall, there is a Reach for Shabbat weekend retreat for Kadima@BJ students in 3rd through 5th grade and their families. In the spring there is a child-only weekend retreat for all of BJ’s 6th graders, regardless of where they receive their Jewish education, to bring them closer to becoming B’nai Mitzvah and to build community, as well as a retreat for 8th through 12th graders in the Teen Program.
Two-week-long service-learning trips for teens, one domestic and one international, are led by a BJ rabbi and educators each winter. These trips are incredible, life-changing opportunities to spend time working, learning, and building community together in an immersive environment outside of New York.
