Israeli Authors Discussion Group
May 6 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 7:00 pm on day First of the month, repeating until June 4, 2021
Every first Thursday of the month, this group will discuss a book written by an Israeli author, facilitated by BJ members Carole Balin and Jennifer Sylvor. What a list we have for you this year! This group is drop in; the Zoom link is applicable for the entire series, so join us each month as your schedule allows.
We will be discussing both our April and May book selections this month!
From April: Two separate instances of deceit bind together this story about the consequences of lies in Ayelet Gundar-Goshen’s newest book, The Liar. Part coming-of-age story and part psychological thriller, the protagonists (a high school girl and an elderly woman) evoke empathy even as they spin webs of deceit. Gundar-Goshen provides insight into the humiliation, loneliness, and rage of society’s outsiders.
For May: Eshkol Nevo’s latest bestseller is a page-turner revealing the deepening cracks of a carefully-constructed public persona. As a writer tries to answer a set of questions sent to him by a website editor, he opens the doors to hidden rooms of his life. And each of his answers reveals that at the heart of every truth, there is a lie — and vice versa. Nevo’s latest is bold, surprising and engrossing.
