Heshbon Hanefesh: Elul at BJ
The Yamim Nora’im (High Holy Days) serve as a type of anchor: every year, regardless of where we’ve been, they bring us back together. This moment in our calendar asks us to not only show up, but to do the spiritual preparations beforehand that enhance our prayers and ultimately the year ahead. During Elul, the month leading up to the Yamim Nora’im, we engage in the spiritual work of Heshbon Hanefesh, or literally, ‘accounting of the soul.’ It pushes us to take a deep dive into who we are, what the past year has been like, and where we’d like to go.
This year, we are offering two different ways to engage in Heshbon Hanefesh and prepare for the High Holy Days: small group home-hosted gatherings led by BJ community members, and larger scale community-wide programs and events.
Small Group Gatherings:
These Heshbon Hanefesh sessions will provide several different avenues for doing this soul-work in the context of an intimate space and community. We are thrilled to be offering more than 20 different groups this year and hope that you will find one that fits who you are and what you need this time of year.
In order to maximize participation, we ask that BJ members sign up for only one session per person. These sessions are for BJ members only, and we ask that when you sign up for a session you commit to going.
