BJ Reads
at P.S. 166

Community, Caring, & Belonging
Learning, Growth, & Families

Volunteers have been paired as reading partners with the students at P.S. 166 on 89th Street for almost 20 years. BJ Reads offers volunteers the opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of elementary school children who are not yet reading at grade level or need a little extra support throughout the year. With the steady presence and enthusiasm of our volunteers, our partners’ reading and comprehension skills flourish over the course of the year.

NOTE: Our BJ Reads program is currently suspended. Due to the nature of the program, we are unsure whether volunteers will be able to return in person or virtually for the 2021-2022 school year. Check back here for more information in the fall.

The BJ Reads volunteer co-chairs are longtime BJ Members Ellen Schecter and Sandy Davidson. Between them, they have decades of teaching and literacy experience and have created a wonderful approach to learning for volunteers and their reading partners.
