Moving Traditions

Moving Traditions: Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing! and Shevet Ahim: The Brotherhood

Untitled Rosh Hodesh: It’s a Girl Thing! Is an experiential education program that uses Jewish teachings and practices to give girls a place to feel safe. Through discussion, arts & crafts, creative ritual, games, and drama, the girls and their leaders draw on Jewish values and a gender lens to explore the issues the girls care about most, such as body image, friendship, relationships, family, competition, and stress. Shevet Ahim: The Brotherhood helps teen boys explore two primary questions: “What does it mean to be a man?” and “What does it mean to be a mensch?” Jewish ideas, stories, and ethics are connected to the most challenging issues in the lives of teen boys: competition, aggression, power, academic stress, pursuit of pleasure, and risk-taking.
