What is Happening in Hebron

  • January 25 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

  • Remote Access Only

The Torah tells us that Abraham purchased a burial plot for his wife Sarah in Hebron, at a site known today as the Cave of the Patriarchs. Today, Hebron is home to more than 200,000 Palestinians and approximately 800 Jewish settlers. What does daily life look like in this city? What is the legal status of the settlers? What are the religious and ethical challenges of this situation? Join Kobi Cohen in conversation with Hagit Ofran as we delve into these questions.

Hagit Ofran has always been passionate about the history and identity of the Israeli and Jewish people. Born in Jerusalem and raised in a politically-minded, Orthodox family, today, she is the director of Peace Now’s Settlement Watch team. In this role, Hagit coordinates the most comprehensive independent database of settlements, collects and publishes reports regarding settlement development and policy, and has been involved in providing evidence for several appeals, the majority of which deal with illegal settlement and outpost construction.
