Join us for the next Israel Unfiltered, with guest speaker Sigal Kook Avivi.

Together we’ll explore what is really happening in south Tel Aviv. How many refugees are there in Israel? Where and why are they in Israel? And how are they treated once they arrive there?

Sigal Kook Avivi is one of Israel’s leading social and human rights activists. Avivi was one of the main petitioners to the Israeli Supreme Court in what was ultimately a successful effort to halt the expulsion of asylum seekers in 2018. She continues to work in the field of human rights, working directly with Israel’s refugee and asylum-seeking population. Kook Avivi is a computer programmer and analyst, most notably working on IT systems for the Israel Defense Mission to the US. She also served as a Captain in the IDF. In 2018, Kook Avivi won the Yeshayahu Leibowitz prize for her important work with refugee and asylum seekers in Israel. She is currently pursuing studies toward a law degree at Hamichlala LeMinhal in Tel Aviv.
