Hitoreri: Bring a Friend!

Friday, December 1 | 6:30PM | BJ Community House Join us for this monthly tradition. BJ teens are invited to welcome in Shabbat with a mindfulness-style Kabbalat Shabbat service followed by a delicious Shabbat dinner. This month, BJ teens are encouraged to fulfill the mitzvah of hakhnasat orhim (welcoming guests) by bringing a teenage friend from outside of the BJ community. Teen Day of Service: Midnight Run

Saturday, December 2 | 8:00PM-midnight | BJ Community House and Other UWS Locations

Calling all BJ teens! Spend a night providing food, clothing, blankets, and other necessities to those in need with Midnight Run, an NYC volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless.

We also need donations! We are specifically looking for warm clothing, jackets, blankets, socks, individually wrapped food items (granola bars, pretzels etc.), and travel sized toiletries. Please bring any donations to Michelle in the Family Life and Learning office on the 2nd floor.

Day Trip: National Museum of American Jewish History

Sunday, December 3 | 8:00AM-6:30PM | Philadelphia Join us for a trip to Philadelphia's National Museum of American Jewish History. Located on Independence Mall, the museum’s core focus is on the diverse backgrounds, expectations, and experiences of Jews who came to the United States and made their homes in Philadelphia. Miracles and Light: A Hanukkah Destressing Meditation Workshop

Tuesday, December 19 | 6:30-8:00PM | 238 Thompson Street, Room 475 (NYU Global Center for Academic & Spiritual Life) As the days get shorter and we get into the depth of winter, join us in a discussion and meditation to explore our own inner light (and darkness) and investigate the concept of miracles in our lives. Latkes and other treats will be served. Everyone is welcome! This workshop will be led by Yael Shy, Founder and Director of MindfulNYU and author of the new book, What Now? Meditation for Your Twenties and Beyond (Parallax, 2017). Yael was trained through the Institute for Jewish Spirituality's Jewish Meditation Teacher Training Program and has been leading retreats and meditations for over a decade. She was recently named one of Sonima's "Next Generation of Meditation Teachers," and in 2010, was named one of the Jewish Week's "36 under 36" Transformers of Jewish Life. Co-sponsored by the Bronfman Center for Jewish Student Life, Global Spiritual Life at NYU, and Congregation B'nai Jeshurun. *Attendees must bring photo ID and sign in with security in the lobby. A Fall Hike With Yozma

Sunday, November 19 | 9:00AM | Palisades  Join Yozma (BJ members and friends in their 40s & 50s) for a moderate five-mile hike. We'll meet outside the BJ Sanctuary to take the subway together to the George Washington Bridge. From there, we will walk across the bridge and onto the trails of the Palisades overlooking the Hudson, before doubling back to return. The track is mostly flat, but there is some trail hiking. Interfaith Peace Feast

Sunday, November 19 | 6:00-8:00PM | SPSA Social Hall, 263 West 86th Street  Join our Muslim and Christian friends for a vegetarian potluck dinner with live music, icebreakers, and teachings and scriptural readings about peace.
