BJ Gets out the Vote

BJ is committed to ensuring that the right to vote—one of our most fundamental civil liberties—is accessible to all.

Upcoming Primaries In New York State

This year is a major electoral year for New York State and the nation. Government—especially on the local level—affects almost every aspect of our daily lives, from education and housing to public transit and public safety. Your voice in this election season matters!

New York State is having a primary election for Assembly and statewide offices—including governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, comptroller, and U.S. Senate—on Tuesday, June 28, from 6:00AM-9:00PM

If you need an absentee ballot, you can apply for one in person at your local County Board of Elections office up until the day before the election. If you’ve already received an absentee ballot, it must be postmarked by June 28th or delivered in person on election day to any poll site in your county.

New Yorkers also have another primary election for Congress and state Senate on Tuesday, August 23.

The general election will take place on Tuesday, November 8.

Primary elections for non-New Yorkers

If you live in a state other than New York, make sure you know when your primary elections are taking place, that you are registered, and make a plan to vote!

Help Get Out the Vote at BJ

Currently, efforts to suppress voting across the country are threatening voting rights, with the greatest impact on communities of color. If you’d like to support our Get Out the Vote efforts here at BJ to help make sure voters in States with high rates of voter suppression are able to participate in their local, primary elections, please join us for an in-person pre-Shabbat postcarding gathering on July 8

We will also have postcards available at Pride Shabbat on June 24 before Shabbat services. No registration necessary. Find us outside the Sanctuary to get in one final mitzvah for the week before Shabbat and write a postcard.
