Forgiving God, forgiving God: A Theology of Suffering

with Rabbi Michael Boino | 9:30PM | BJ Middle Room

The liturgy of the High Holy Days seems to enthrone a God who uses suffering and even death as punishment for wrongdoing, a theology that many if not all of us reject. However, there is something shocking in the ritual of Yom Kippur which we barely notice, and it can change the way we understand God’s relationship with the world. An exploration of theology and theodicy through text and thought.
