Hazon New York Bike Ride and Retreat with the BJ Revoluntionaries
The Hazon New York Ride is more than a bike ride, it is a four-day event that includes a Shabbat retreat, a 2-day Ride and so much more. During the retreat you can enjoy yoga, hiking, study, swimming, sessions on the work of Hazon and its partners, spirited prayer services, and delicious, communal Shabbat meals.
The proceeds from the Hazon NY Bike Ride and Retreat support Hazon and other programs that share its mission of improving the environment and creating more sustainable and healthy Jewish communities. In past years, BJ has been the recipient of Hazon mini-grants awarded with funds raised from this bike ride. These grants were awarded to help the B’nai Jeshurun community to install a solar Ner Tamid and to plan a cooking demonstration/class series for BJ Hazorim CSA members.
The BJ Revoluntionaries Team is working towards a more sustainable world and Jewish community by participating in this Hazon experience. We foster community among BJ Revoluntionaries Team members that can carry over to other BJ activities.

The Hazon NY Bike Ride and Retreat
Since 2000, Hazon has hosted the annual Bike Ride for 1900 participants across North America. The rides offer an outdoor immersion experience and brings people together for a relaxing Shabbat celebration followed by a fully supported two-day bike ride. The rides have raised over $1.5 million dollars for Hazon and Jewish environmental organizations and projects in the United States and Israel. To donate to our team, please visit our Hazon donation page!

BJ inspires me to be a part of something bigger than myself. Through the BJ Revolutionaries my Jewish practice is enriched with a connection to the Hazon community. On this team I continue to grow and explore what it means to be Jewish and environmentally aware. -Andrea Newman
Upcoming Events and Training Rides
Hazon and BJ Revolutionaries Training Rides
In the spring and summer there are Hazon organized training rides leading up to Labor Day Weekend. The rides are categorized by skill level so there is something for everyone. Please note that all training rides are free, and it is not necessary to sign-up for the Hazon Ride and Retreat in order to join us. See our schedule of rides this spring and summer below! For additional training rides not based out of Manhattan, visit the Hazon ride calendar.
Sunday, May 31 | 8:45AM-1:30PM | The JCC in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue
We will meet at the JCC Manhattan and cross the GW Bridge and then head to the base of the Palisades. We will head north through the picturesque Palisades Park on River Road, at the base of the cliffs along the Hudson River. The park ends with a tough climb, where we can take a short break. We will head back to the GW Bridge on 9W, a popular bike route. This is a 30 mile ride with moderate hills. Click here to R.S.V.P.
Friday, June 12 | 5:45-6:45PM | Columbus Circle Entrance to Central Park
Join us for some quick loops in the park before Shabbat begins on one of the longest days of year! We will meet at Columbus Circle and ride for about an hour (two loops, 6.25 miles per park loop). Click here to R.S.V.P.
Sunday, June 21 | 9:30AM | The JCC in Manhattan, 334 Amsterdam Avenue
Join the BJ Revolutionaries in the annual ride to Coney Island. This is a great day trip that starts in five locations around the NY metro area. Meet up with other riders as you cycle across bridges and on greenways through the city. All routes end at the Shorefront Y on Coney Island between 12:00-1:00PM for lunch and spending time at the beach. Our starting location is for intermediate and advanced riders. Please arrive a few minutes early – we want to leave on time so that you have ample time at the beach. Cue sheets will be provided for all riders, however this ride is NOT fully supported. You should bring filled water bottles and a helmet. It is best to carry some energy bars, some cash, and identification. Please note: Helmets are REQUIRED for all riders – if you are not wearing one, you will not be allowed to ride. There will be the option to either bike back to your starting location or you can choose to take the subway home. R.S.V.P. here.
Friday, September 4-Monday, September 7 | Isabella Freedman Jewish Retreat Center, Falls Village, CT
Join the BJ team and cyclists from all over New York for a relaxing and meaningful Shabbat retreat at Hazon’s home at Isabella Freedman, and for two days of glorious cycling through the Berkshires and Hudson Valley into New York City. BJ has traditionally sent one of the largest and strongest team to the Ride and we want this year to be no exception. It’s more than just a ride: Spend Shabbat hiking on the Mohawk Trail, canoeing on the lake, exploring the Adamah organic farm, and enjoying delicious kosher farm-to-table meals. Practice Judaism in a diverse community, with options including yoga, musical services, and traditional prayers. Non-riders are welcome to join to help crew (a vital and energetic part of the weekend), or just come for Shabbat. To sign up for this year’s ride and retreat and for more details, visit the Hazon website. Contact Gil Kulick or Michael Ekstract with questions about the BJ team.
