AIDS Walk

“When I marched [in Selma], my feet were praying”

-Abraham Joshua Heschel after marching with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. from Selma to Montgomery in March 1965

Please join the B’nai Jeshurun AIDS Walk Team this year on Sunday, May 15, 2011! The Teen Leadership team is taking the lead on planning this year’s walk and are excited to welcome the entire community to walk and fundraise with us.

Goals

Help us reach our goal of recruiting 54 teens and 54 other BJ members to walk with us in May. We would like to collect at least $18 from each walker to total a $1,944 contribution to the Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) and all other AIDS Walk beneficiaries.

Why do we Walk?

BJ has a strong tradition of participating in the AIDS Walk.  Abraham Joshua Heschel taught us that through action (and walking!) we can make a difference and live out our values. We feel compelled to continue that connection and ensure it stays strong. Our tradition is complemented by the place in life in which we find ourselves: growing up in a generation that openly acknowledges and works to confront the HIV/AIDS epidemic. It is important to us to contribute to the fight against this disease and to educate our community. The B’nai Jeshurun Teens walk because of the intersection of tradition and the future.
