PARASHAT HASHAVU'A

The beautiful hum that fills the traditional beit midrash is generated when a community is engaged and enmeshed in the texts of our tradition. Both that hum and the dialogue that is created in the house of learning can transcend the walls of sacred space.

Each week we will present a D'var Torah, an outline of the Torah portion, and questions for further study all written by a BJ community member. This teaching will allow us to study the week's parasha together.

Seeking Divrei Torah

You have an opportunity to be one of 54 teachers of Torah in our community this year! Throughout the year, a weekly d'var Torah on the parashat hashavu'a (which means weekly torah portion) is disseminated to our community by e-mail and is published on the website, and accompanies the Kol Jeshurun. Many BJ members eagerly anticipate receiving the d'var torah written by a fellow BJ member and the opportunity it gives them to learn during the course of the work week.

We have had a wonderfully diverse group of teachers of Torah from our community. We have found many people to write divrei torah this year's parashiyot, but there are still some openings for members of the community. If you would be interested in writing ad'var Torah, please contact Jack Rizutko at jrizutko@bj.org or x234 for a list of parashiyot that are still available.
