Volunteering on the Bikkur Holim Committee
There are many ways in which the mitzvah of Bikkur Holim can be done. The Bikkur Holim Committee, which supports those who are ill, is chaired by Jeannie Blaustein and Amy Korn. Committee volunteers provide support and resources for people undergoing or recovering from illness by:
- Visiting people in hospitals, nursing homes, or in their own homes
- Making phone calls to congregants who are homebound
- Performing practical tasks such as shopping or running errands
- Calling those whose names are on the MeSheberakh list for healing prayers on Shabbat morning
- Helping congregants who are experiencing illness or facing surgery with person-to-person support
- Organizing and/or participating in a one-time special event (such as a holiday party at a nursing home)
- Educating and communicating to the BJ community the message of Bikkur Holim

The Misheberakh List
If you know someone who is ill and would their name added to the Mi Sheberakh list, contact Yaffa Garber. The list is recited every Saturday morning, and is refreshed twice a year on Hanukah and Shavuot. It is preferable to give us the person’s Hebrew name as well as their mother’s Hebrew name.
