The BJ community is deeply saddened by the ongoing violence and devastation in the Middle East. We are resolved to support our brothers and sisters in Israel, and aid those who have been suffering as a result of the current Intifada. While we continue to call and pray for peace, we are encouraging a renewed commitment to assisting those most in need at this time.

Under the leadership of our Rabbis, the new Israel Steering Committee of the BJ Board and the Israel Program Committee, we are planning a more comprehensive and deeper approach to Israel which will include study and discussion (through our Communal Beit Midrash, Shabbat Mevarkhim, Hebrew School, and Bar/Bat Mitzvah programs). We also plan trips to Israel for different constituencies and a strengthening of our relationships and partnerships with those insitutions and individuals that strive to fulfill Israel's Declaration of Independence of a democratic, pluralistic Jewish state, living in peace with its neighbors.

We invite all BJ members to consider a renewed connection with Israel as well as travelling to Israel.

For those of you interested in visiting Israel on your own, there is a new initiative to promote travel and tourism in Israel. Visit the the Israeli Ministry of Toursim website to find out how you can participate.

We have compiled a list of organizations that are working tirelessly, reflecting numerous options for financial contributions. All of these non-governmental organizations are working, in their own ways, to end violence and the impact of violence on individuals and whole communities, and to promote civil and human rights.

We believe that now is the time to act decisively, as the suffering in Israel is growing daily, and rapidly draining the country's physical, emotional and economic resources. We encourage you to continue your ongoing support of Israel, and to consider generously supporting any or all of the following organizations. This revised list has just been updated by BJ members who are working to identify new opportunities for your support and participation.
